The Cat’s Meow Village is a small company founded in Wooster, Ohio in 1982 from one simple wooden house Faline cutout on her grandfather’s saw in the loft of the hog barn. In 2013, the Jepsen Family became partners with the former owner and at that time, their construction company Scandic Builders undertook the extensive renovation. The Jepsen Family, originally from Denmark, called upon their lifelong love of travel, dining out and elevated aesthetics when they designed the new space. Washington House took back its former name when the doors opened in May 2014. The Jepsens and their staff look forward to reaching the 10 year milestone next year and have great plans for the anniversary celebration.

He is reimagining the parish during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing a variety of opportunities for the parish to connect online for liturgical services as well as socially. Despite the challenging times, he is presiding over a time of growth, vibrancy, and transformation for the parish. From its beginning, the church has played a vital role in the local community, and many of the activities of the parish today have their own long histories. The League For Service (the Episcopal Church Women of St. Matthew’s) established the Thrift Shop in 1959, which became a major source of outreach funding. When the parish needed a source of communication in Spring 1962, the Tau Cross became the parish bulletin. The Tau Cross is published by volunteers and covers events, announcements, and issues of interest and concern to parishioners.

In 1956, the Vestry decided to increase the length of the church to accommodate the growing number of Sunday worshipers, and architect Milton Pflueger was retained to supervise the engineering and design of the extension. The west end of the church was severed, divided, and pushed on rails by hydraulic jacks, one inch at a time, to the planned 30 feet expansion. Four new stained glass windows were added to the north side of the nave, and two old windows from the north side were moved to the south side. The present church, in gothic style, is built of Sites Sandstone quarried in Colusa County. The identical sets of entry doors were designed by Willis Polk and carved of rosewood. The enlarged nave has stately pews made of oak, and the steps leading to the altar are white marble with choir stalls on both sides.
St. Matthew’s House does not rely upon government funding in any manner. Underneath the picturesque vista, however, is a forgotten group of homeless people. St. Matthew’s House works to eliminate the elements of poverty at their base. Our homeless shelter and feeding ministry have opened their doors to countless lives without taking a day off in more than a quarter century.

"Things are just a lot better and my son is healing mentally," Adair said. "He started kindergarten at Calusa Park Elementary, and I'm working real closely with them to help him just get better from everything that he was put through." The 8,000-square-foot facility in Fort Myers will provide 11 private dorms for women with children and 28 beds for single women. Adair said that being depressed, she "could stay in bed all day." Dr. Chris Harrigfeld, deacon and retired pediatrician, started an after-school tutorial program, assisting youth from the community. Volunteer tutors from the parish and Day School, assist youngsters who cannot afford tutoring but need a boost in their education. In 1962, the Day School began a seventh grade continuing to eighth grade in 1963, bringing the total enrollment to 245. In the 1960s, a campaign was launched to build new facilities to house the school and for church use.

It was a department store built for the car, and even though its cash registers have been shut for two decades (now it’s a law school), its poise and strong vertical lines still catch motorists’ eyes.
More recently, St. Matthew’s Episcopal Day School was accredited and joined the National Association of Independent Schools. The Day School developed a fundraiser, Dicken’s House, that has been a financial success and provided an opportunity for Parish-Day School teamwork. The annual fundraiser has enabled the Day School to make a significant yearly financial contribution to the parish. From the early Twentieth Century through today, the world's most famous and influential architects have created amazing buildings, homes and structures in LA and Southern California. These are just a few of the most beautiful - and unusual places you can see on your personal architecture tour. It’s important to untangle climate change’s influence on extreme weather events like the heat dome, which are increasing in frequency and intensity, Diffenbaugh said.

On Whitsunday, May 15, 1910, the new St. Matthews Church now facing east and west was consecrated by William Ford Nichols, Bishop of California. Sadly, eleven days after the consecration, the Reverend Gallwey passed away at the age of 50. He was buried in a crypt under the steps in front of the altar, a fitting tribute to the man who helped make the new church a reality.
Designed by architect Richard Meier, this complex occupies an entire hilltop just off fabled Sunset Blvd. We think it's one of the greatest outdoor spaces in Southern California, with the architecture eclipsing the collection it houses. One of Frank Lloyd Wright's most important designs, it's built of textile blocks in the style of a Mayan temple. Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue, 1926 The city’s main library is worth a look even if you’ve no interest in borrowing books. The exterior is an Egyptian and Mediterranean beauty, topped with a dramatic, tiled pyramid tower and decorated with bas-reliefs. The most stunning features, though, reside in the second floor rotunda, with its deco-meets-arabesque dome, California history mural and globe chandelier.
Its history begins in 1864 when the village of San Mateo had a population of 150 people, 25 houses, a railway depot, Roman Catholic Church, schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, and a grocery store. There were several Episcopalian families in the area, and the Reverend Giles Alexander Easton arrived from San Francisco to conduct the first Episcopal services on April 24, 1864, in the local schoolhouse. Our unique social enterprise business model helps cover the administrative expenses for the organization, so donations go toward our program expenses.
Learning under what conditions these events occur can also help people understand how a warming climate can lead to more extremes in the future, Jain said. The heat wave also ratcheted up fire danger, breaking a slew of fire weather records over a broad area and helping to stoke blazes in British Columbia, California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Montana. Agnes Poett Howard, widow of William Davis Merry Howard, and their son, William Henry Howard, donated two acres of land on which to build the church. In addition, pledges totaling $1,750 were received along with additional gifts from businessmen from as far away as San Francisco. Designs were created for a new church by architect and Vestry treasurer, Albert H. Jordan. In addition, St. Matthew’s House operates soup kitchens, mobile food pantries, transitional and permanent supportive housing facilities, substance abuse recovery programs, and employment training initiatives. Months ahead of the expected opening of a shelter for homeless women and children, a Southwest Florida mother is reflecting on her time at a shelter saying "they saved my life."
Throughout the years, community support has helped grow the small mission into a multi-faceted organization focused on spiritual change. A plan was developed to add a grade each year until a school with N-K and grades 1-8 was established. In 1948, a new rector was called to the parish, and St. Matthew’s was in for a period of expansion and growth. The Reverend Lesley Wilder established a new mission in south San Mateo in 1950, now the Church of the Transfiguration. A young seminarian, John Easton, helped the Reverend Wilder to plan and develop that mission.

Today, Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter is still standing, and many of the recipes can be traced back to Elizabeth’s home cooking. Highlights include the eatery’s herring sampler, weisswurst, and rouladen.
The restaurant’s old-world Alpine delights include bratwurst fondue and papet vaudois (sausage served over leeks and potato). In the 19th century, Germans immigrated to Wisconsin en masse and were the largest immigrant group to settle in the Badger State. Unsurprisingly, Germans restaurants abound in Milwaukee, the country’s “most German American city.” But Kegel’s Inn stands above the rest. Established in the early 1900s, this Wisconsin institution serves loaded bratwursts, a variety of schnitzel, and a host of seafood dishes. Kegel’s also looks the part with its cobblestone exterior, biergarten, and historic stained glass windows. From fried potato cakes and fries to schnitzel and roasted chicken, Portland’s Stammtisch features a variety of both small and large classic German plates.

Cafe Berlin sits in a nondescript shopping complex a few miles down the road from the drunken tourists, tense gamblers, and bright lights of the Las Vegas strip.

Lee Morgan’s The Complete Live at the Lighthouse is an expansive collection of all 12 sets of music the legendary trumpeter’s quintet recorded during their engagement at the Lighthouse Cafe in July of 1970.
